Congress Inches Toward Vote on Health Care Reform Compromise

With the full Senate close to cobbling together a compromise on health care legislation, union leaders across the nation are urging their members to “KEEP THE PRESSURE ON” Congress. It’s the same message that was delivered forcefully by Council 20 members and other AFSCME activists who packed the headquarters of the AFL-CIO in August to celebrate AFSCME’s successful “Highway to Health Care Reform” bus tour.

The bus tour visited 19 cities in 10 states during the last three weeks in August, urging the public to demand real reform from their members of Congress.

Council 20 Executive Director Geo T. Johnson said “our members are proud to be part of our international union’s effort to counter the lies and fear-mongering fanned by front groups for the health insurance industry to deny affordable health care for all Americans, regardless of income or medical status.”
